Sugar is killing us...

On average Australians consume 15 teaspoons of added sugars a day. To put this in context, if you drank a 330ml can of traditional soft drink a day, you would consume about 8 teaspoons just in that drink alone, which is 12 kgs of sugar a year.

Excessive amounts of added sugars have been associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, likely due to negative effects on the liver and a higher risk of obesity.

Natural sugars found in fruits and vegetables are not linked to diabetes risk — whereas artificial sweeteners are.

Dark Forest uses raw sugar to kick start the fermentation process. We then use whole fruits to flavour and add complexity. We do this so you get the micro nutrients found in the skin and flesh of the fruit.

We also brew down to 2.9% or 2.9 gms of sugar per 100 mls of liquid, or 1.5 teaspoons of sugar per 330ml bottle so you don't get sugar spiked and over time, your craving for sugar will reduce.

By swapping sugar for something more "tart" like kombucha, you re-train your taste buds to crave less sugar and seek out healthier alternatives such as bitterness. #drinkferments
